People can return to the United Community Bank Ice on Main on Nov. 12.
Setup has started for the United Community Bank Ice on Main in Downtown Greenville.
On Monday morning, crews brought in the necessary equipment to keep the 3,200-square-foot ice rink frozen all season long.
“The United Community Bank Ice on Main is just an iconic part of our city’s tradition," Michelle Seaver, president of the United Community Bank in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties.
This year marks the 11th year of the Holiday tradition.
“Just seeing the smiles on people’s faces, whether they are skating or not skating, is my favorite part," said Seaver.
With the help of a crane, crews set an air-cooled refrigerator unit in place, also known as "the Chiller."
“The Chiller is what keeps us having ice during the season," said Seaver.
Organizers said it takes 2 to 3 day and approximately 4,000 gallons of water to cover the coils on the rink with 2 inches of ice.
“Opening ceremonies are on the 12th and today is the first, so we have about a week and a half to get it frozen," said Seaver.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be extra safety precautions in place.
“We still want to make sure we are being very careful and protecting the people at the rink so the capacity will be smaller again, which is why we are doing tickets online, so we can manage the capacity of the rink," said Seaver.
According to a release, admission is $10 per adult, $8 per child (ages 3-12), and free for children under the age of 2. Skate rental is included in the price. You can buy a ticket HERE.
Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Monday morning. The event runs from Nov. 12 through Jan. 17.
