Oregon-based boutique coffee shop Black Rock Coffee Bar is opening its sixth Houston-area location, but first for Pearland, at 11930 Broadway within the Shadow Creek Ranch Community in Pearland. The doors open on Friday, June 17 with grand opening specials that include free 16-ounce drinks on the opening day, plus forthcoming perks throughout the coming week. Black Rock originally opened in Portland in 2008, and has since expanded to seven western states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, and Washington, as well as Texas.
“We love serving the communities in Texas and are thrilled to now serve the folks in Pearland,” said Josh Pike, CEO of Black Rock Coffee Bar via a press release. “At Black Rock, we are rooted by coffee, connection and community. That means our baristas hope to make a positive impact on every person that visits our stores, while serving our award-winning coffee and popular flavored energy drinks.”
In addition to premium roasted coffees, guests can order teas, smoothies and the company’s exclusive Fuel energy drinks. Signature drinks are available hot or iced, such as Caramel Blondie (caramel white mocha), Jackhammer (vanilla mocha with an extra double shot), Blackout (hazelnut mocha) and the rather extreme-sounding I.V. (Irish cream and vanilla breve with six shots).
Blended, flavored iced coffees and teas include Caramel Truffle, Chai Chiller, Chocolate Chip and Caramel Blondie. There is a smoothie made with strawberry, wildberry, peach, mango and green apple and iced fruit-flavored drinks, too, topped with fresh fruit. The latter include Pineapple Green Tea & OJ topped with dragon fruit, Strawberry & Coconut topped with strawberries, Blue Raspberry & Green Apple topped with dragon fruit and Strawberry & Passion Fruit Black Tea topped with strawberries. Drinks are available with dairy milks, or soy, almond, coconut and oat alternatives.
The Fuel energy drinks are available in organic, original and sugar-free. There are more than 20 syrup flavors for customizing drinks, such as almond, blue raspberry, passion fruit, banana, blackberry and lavender, plus assorted sugar free selections like Irish cream, peach, vanilla and peppermint. Choose from three sauces, available in regular and sugar-free: caramel, chocolate and white chocolate. Coffee is available by the pound and starts at $16 for a 12-ounce bag. For those who want low-effort coffee, there are also K-Cups.
The Black Rock Coffee Bar signature, industrial modern aesthetic will be present in the new storefront, such as neutral colors, clean lines and wood-and-metal fixtures. A Texas-themed mural will offset the gray, black and cream palette baseline palette. Staff members will also enjoy a business model that supports professional skill development in its employees by providing opportunities “for young people to learn how to lead, run a business, and develop people skills”. According to the press release, these are based on the “4G’s of Black Rock – grit, growth, gratitude and grace.”
