This week’s hot weather has been wreaking havoc on chiller cabinets for a number of supermarkets

Lidl has responded to tweeted pictures of empty freezers and chiller cabinets by acknowledging it is experiencing “stock issues” at a number of stores.

Shoppers have tweeted pictures showing low stock levels in three Lidl stores in the south west of England during the past 24 hours.

Pictures from a Weston-super-Mare store in North Somerset show the frozen food section looking bare, and big gaps in chilled thanks to a lack of cheese and other products.

More gaps in frozen and chilled are pictured at a Melksham store in Wiltshire, where fresh fruit & veg also looked severely depleted.

@LidlGB The situation in the Melksham store is getting worse re stock levels. Since Feb I’ve been told a roof loss at a storage depot was to blame. A shopper in Paignton, Devon, also highlighted big variations in stock levels between stores, asking Lidl: “Why does your Paignton White Rock Way store have such low stock all the time but when I went to your Honiton store as I was passing through it was fully stocked?”

Lidl has replied: “Sorry to see this! We’re experiencing some stock issues that the team are working hard to resolve ASAP. We’ll flag this to them and hopefully things will be back to normal in all stores soon.”

Lidl has not provided further comment on the issues.
